Down in the Dumps: Being Considered a Failure

Failure

Warning. This is not a happy joy post. What follows is a wall of depression text, so if you’d rather not go there with me, feel free to skip this one.

It has been a while since my last post. I still have my job, which I am grateful for. Things are very quiet there these days. A few more co-workers left on their own after the layoffs. They either took other jobs or are just quitting to get off of the treadmill. I envy their ability to afford to do that. There are a handful of us left in the office so… it’s really quiet.

Why am I still there? It’s not Read More

Job Update: The Axe Fell Today…

At work, the axe fell today on our little satellite office…but I was spared.

Now that it’s all over, only about 5 of us are left on our little team. It was a bloodbath. All the people who sat near me for the last 1.75 years are gone. As people arrived and checked their emails for the morning, they announced to the rest of us that they had the dreaded meeting invite to meet with one of the visiting executives (and unbeknownst to them, an HR representative who had secretly flown in).

R.I.P Cousin

rest in peace

I just got the news that one of my cousins died today of a heart attack. He’d just finished singing a song of appreciation to his mother for Mother’s Day and was surrounded by family (including my mother) when he collapsed.

He had been having discomfort in his arm and chest for a couple of days but ignored it, thinking it would go away. It didn’t go away until it took him with it. He was only 12 years older than me. I remember the good times that my sister and I had with him and my other cousins back in the good old days when we would visit them in New York City. He and his brother were so urban and streetwise. We thought everything they did was the coolest thing ever. They left New York and moved back to my family’s home state about 15 years ago and settled into their own lives. He remained a jovial guy who could tell a great story that would have you in stitches.

I will miss him.
