Whoa! Who needs a jack o’lantern when we’ve got the Sun. Our very own star beat out all the competition this year to claim the crown for best Halloween costume. Unfortunately, the crown melted when the Sun tried to wear it. Fortunately, our source of warmth is still in good spirits and will be for another few billion years.
The Student Loan
I’ve put $5,000 toward my student loans. $1,000 came from my paycheck. The other $4,000 came from my Life Fund. My Life Fund is now down to $4,000. It felt like the right thing to do. I’m feeling a bit more secure in my job. At least for the next few months. It’s good to see it dropping, but the lower I get the balance, the slower everything feels. Regardless, though, I’m very happy that it’s down to $5K!
An Enemy Returns from the Crypt
My credit card debt has returned ($1,209), almost entirely due to an expensive plane ticket purchase to visit family over the holidays. I’m looking forward to the visit this year, but hate how much more expensive holiday tickets are. Ugh. One more thing to pay off before I can get back to chopping down the student loan.
That’s it. A quick update today. Off to work now…..sigh.

Anyone dressing up for Halloween this year?

Only $5,000 OMG!!!!! That is so freaking exciting! I’m happy that one of my 2 remaining Parent PLUS loans will be under $5k with tomorrow’s payment. In a year I will be where you are, and you’ll be FREE!!! Don’t sweat the plane ticket. I know it sucks to have to pay so much, but you’ll enjoy the time away.
No costume for me, although I am wearing my Tigger ears at work today! Have a great weekend!

Congratulations on the loan, so close. Eeeek on the credit card. At least you feel more confident about your job situation. That’ll make all this work out. I can’t wait for your first post after your loans have been completely paid off.

Congratulations! Do you have anything planned to celebrate once you’re finally done? I’m on track to knock my loans out this month and decided my gift to myself was going to be one of the most indulgent, frivolous things I can think of: a spa day at an actual spa. A couple of my (loanless) friends are even going to join me! Hope you have something nice lined up for yourself!

Glad you are feeling more comfortable in the job. And wow, that $5k mark. So IMPRESSIVE!! You have inspired me to sit down and really look at what I will be paying while on the income based repayment plan and to figure out what will be the amount “to be forgiven” (but imputed to me as income for that tax year down the line, and thus taxed on) and start saving up to pay off that amount when that time comes. Because it’s going to be big. Going to see if that amount is bigger or to just pay them off as they sit now. (You know, to the tune of about 150K.) At the rate you pay things, don’t fret about that credit card. Pay it off before you pay any interest. Sounds like you can if u just paid $1000 out of your last paycheck to your student loan. Then it’s off your mind and your plate and your balance sheet. Girl, you are killing it!!

Something needs to be done about student loan debt in this country. Depending on who wins the next presidential election, maybe there might be some reform.
Thank you, Terri!
