Health Update: On the Mend!

First, thank you guys for your well wishes and encouragement.

Do know that I see and read each and every one of your messages and comments, on new and old posts alike, even if I may not reply to all of them. Thank you so much for taking the time to write in to share your own experiences and/or to send a kind word. There have been times when I’ve been feeling blue about something and I’ll see a new comment come through that cheers me up.

So far I have only good news to report.

In this post, I mentioned that I may have a potentially life threatening condition, which was delaying my unrelated surgery. After additional scans and tests, it turns out that I have the other non-life threatening variant. It’s far from harmless, but it’s not something that will alter my day to day life. Woot!

So I got the green light to move forward with everything. I sailed through my surgery without complications and went home after only three days in hospital. I learned that morphine is a wonderful thing. It really blocked the worst of the pain.

I am now on the mend!  I’m so glad that I took my time to do research and select the right surgeon for me. She did an awesome job and lived up to her reputation. Healing and recovering is always a slow process, but it is going well. Every day after the surgery I’ve been getting stronger and am able to do more. I don’t go back to work until next month and have enjoyed being remarkably stress-free. Too bad it took having major surgery to get some real rest, but it is what it is.

My mom flew out (I paid $) and stayed with me for the first week and a half. Having her here was great and very helpful. I did have to rent a small place for us to stay near the hospital for that time ($$$), but for me it was worth it.

I’ll start posting again within the next week or so especially as it relates to the financial fallout. I won’t know total damage until the final bills come in.

In the meantime, thanks for keeping me in your thoughts.

So glad to hear all your good news! You so deserved some rest. And yes, a bummer it came out of having surgery, but important nonetheless. I hope you get to continue to relax a little and come back stronger than ever!

Many congratulations on getting through this. I’m glad you’ve had some good breaks, like this and not being one of the people made redundant by your company. I hope things continue in a good direction and will continue to follow your progress.

    Good luck.

    Paul.
